The Cute Cats Around The World
The domestic cat belongs to the family Felidae that includes wild cats
such as lions, tigers, leopards, etc. Cats are hunting carnivores with
instincts as per the law of nature, powerful jaws and claws that draw
back into their paws. Cats can hear well, and can see in dim light.
Domestic cats come in a variety of shapes, sizes and coats. The domestic
cat is lively, intelligent, friendly and affectionate. The cat is
sociable and independent. It can be happy with its own company or with
the company of other cats or humans.
 Domestic cats, especially young
kittens, love to play and that is their identity. This behaviour
imitates hunting and is important in helping kittens learn to hunt,
capture their prey and kill it. Cats engage themselves in playing by
fighting with each other and with humans. This behaviour is the way for
cats to practice the skills needed for real struggle for survival and
might also reduce any fear that they have in attacking other animals.
Many cats cannot resist a piece of string or a rope lying randomly
across the floor. This love for string is often seen in cartoons and
photographs that which show kittens or cats playing with balls of wool.
It is probably related to the law of nature including the common
practice of kittens hunting their mother's and each other's tails. If
string is swallowed by a cat while playing, it can get caught in its
cat’s stomach or intestines causing illness or even death in the extreme
cases. Due to complications caused by the swallowing of a string,
playing with it is sometimes replaced with a laser pointer's dot that
the cats usually chase. Though care is generally taken while cats play
with laser pointer, there are no cases of feline eye damage from a laser
pointer, and the combination of accuracy that is required and low energy
involved make it a rare risk. A common conciliation is to use the laser
pointer to draw the cat to an already positioned toy so the cat is
rewarded at the end of its successful chase.
Cats are known for their hard to please cleanliness. They groom
themselves by licking their fur with the use of their saliva. Their
saliva is a powerful cleaning means and deodorant.
There are dozens of cat breeds. Though some are more popular than the
others, each of them bring something that is only one of its kind to the
dominion of cats. Most domestic cats that people own are not purebred
cats, in the sense that they are a mix of different breeds. Only three
to four percent of domestic cats are pedigree, there are no discrete
advantages or disadvantages of buying a pedigree cat and they can be
very pricey. Different groups from all over the world have classified
just over 100 different pedigree cats. Most popular cat breeds are:
American Bobtail, Birman, European Burmese, Japanese Bobtail, Laperm,
Maine Coon, Manx, Ragdoll, Siberian and Turkish Van.
